Equipped with his trademark set of buck teeth and tickling stick, he was a man who simply lived to make people laugh. Harking back to his music hall era heroes, he was often hailed as the Scouse Bruce Springsteen of live comedy, regularly putting on intimate one-man shows lasting up to five hours.
