Guy Martin: Top Gun
Guy Martin: Top Gun | C4 1 x 90
Guy Martin undergoes intensive training to fly the fastest machine he’s ever been let loose in; a classic frontline fighter jet. And along the way, he’ll learn all about the jet engine, the extraordinary British invention that shrank the world, revolutionised travel and changed our lives forever.
Guy’s training starts in the world’s first purpose-built jet trainer, the Jet Provost. After the Jet Provost, he’ll then face one of his biggest challenges yet - making his final sortie in the 500mph De Havilland Vampire in the Swiss Alps. It’ll push his skills to the limit, employing low-level tactical flying through the valleys of the Alps. Guy will need exceptional levels of concentration to pass this demanding final test. Guy will also learn about the maverick genius, Sir Frank Whittle – the man who invented the jet engine and changed the world forever. He’ll also discover how Whittle’s invention could’ve changed the course of World War 2. In typical Guy fashion, he discovers how a jet engine works by building one himself, in his shed. Guy also visits Rolls Royce to see the extraordinary Ultrafan – the largest turbofan jet ever built, designed specifically to make jet powered flight more sustainable and environmentally friendly. The show climaxes as Guy heads off on his final mission in the Swiss Alps to fly the beautiful De Havilland Vampire. Will he cut it as a fighter pilot and prove he has the skills to be a real-life Top Gun?
