North One is bringing Guy Martin back to Channel 4 with a bold new one-off documentary exploring how everyday homes can be transformed to dramatically cut energy costs.
Guy Martin’s House Without Bills is a 90-minute film following the former motorcycle racer over nine months as he takes on the challenge of turning an ordinary semi-detached house in Stretford, Manchester into a cutting-edge eco-home. The goal? To drive heating bills as close to zero as possible.
Guy rolls up his sleeves to oversee a full eco-transformation of the property to meet ultra-low Passivhaus standards, working hands-on across the key installations needed to achieve maximum energy efficiency.
Alongside the renovation, the film offers practical advice for homeowners looking to reduce both their bills and carbon footprint — whatever their budget. Guy also travels across the UK to explore the future of British housing, from visiting one of the country’s most energy-efficient homes in a converted Northumberland church, to taking part in heating experiments at Salford University’s House 2.0 research lab and helping assemble a flat-pack home at a pioneering Merseyside building company.
The documentary was commissioned by Channel 4’s specialist factual team, with commissioning editor Jonah Weston. It is executive produced by North One chief executive Steve Gowans, produced by Amy Roff and directed by James Woodroffe.
The film is co-funded by innovation foundation Nesta as part of its mission to reduce UK home carbon emissions by 30% by 2030.
Steve Gowans said:“Heating our homes for less is always a hot topic — especially when it’s cold — and there’s no one better than Guy Martin, a genuine energy efficiency obsessive, to find out whether it’s really possible to live without fuel bills.”
Guy Martin’s House Without Bills is the latest in a run of Channel 4 projects fronted by Martin for North One, including Guy Martin’s Great British Power Trip, The Lost WW2 Bomber, Guy Martin Arctic Warrior, Our Guy in Vietnam and The British Train That Changed the World.
