6 x 120' Commission for Channel 5.

From toe-curling interviews to live TV disasters that can never be unseen, The Most Embarrassing TV Moments takes a hilarious and revealing look at the television mishaps that left audiences cringing – and clips living forever.

Spanning decades of broadcasting history, the series celebrates the most excruciating, shocking and laugh-out-loud TV cock-ups from the great and the good of television. Across the series, episodes explore unforgettable moments from live TV, reality shows, chat shows, game shows and headline-making guest appearances.

Viewers are guided through this nostalgia-fuelled journey by a wide and diverse range of contributors – some of whom were directly involved in the moments themselves. Others, including comedians, celebrities and commentators, add context, insight and wit. Contributors include La Voix, Debbie McGee, Colson Smith and Simon McCoy.

The Most Embarrassing TV Moments features a mix of instantly recognisable classics and lesser-known but equally jaw-dropping clips. Familiar highlights include Richard Madeley’s painfully awkward Ali G impression live on This Morning, Eamonn Holmes’ famously uncomfortable interview with David Blaine, and the moment that helped launch YouTube into the mainstream – Tom Cruise bouncing on Oprah Winfrey’s sofa, declaring his love for Katie Holmes.

Alongside these are moments that may be less well known but no less unforgettable: an 80-year-old woman’s startlingly candid account of a night with a toyboy after 35 years without sex; psychic medium Derek Acorah attempting to commune with Michael Jackson during a séance surrounded by superfans; and what many consider the most embarrassing TV moment of all time – when IT worker Guy Goma, at the BBC for a job interview, was mistaken for an IT journalist and thrust live onto rolling news. His dawning realisation and sheer terror have become the stuff of TV legend.

Told with humour, warmth and insight, the series also reflects on the lasting – sometimes damaging, often hilarious – consequences of these moments, particularly in the age of social media, where there truly is nowhere to hide.
